Baja
(Ger. Baie) – bay; a thick and soft fluffy cotton fabric with a loosely twisted weft, relatively inexpensive. From the 15th century, it was imported to the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth mainly from England. In the 16th century, its production began in Gdańsk as well as in Silesia and Greater Poland. Baja was used for winter outer garments, men’s clothing, lined kaftan doublets and dressing gowns.
